For this project, I created a master version of a web ad for a movie based on a romance during the Carnation Revolution in Portugal back in April of 1974. Turmoil, growing tension, and revolt are in the air, but can this young couple find stability in their budding romance? I took an image of the Praco do Comercio because it's a big, open space in Lisbon and a perfect setting for the scene. I added an old tank off to the side and then duplicated that image, ran some HDR toning over it, brought it back and blended it. I did a lot of selection work with images of crowds to make a couple of brushes that I used to create the mass of humanity in the background, varying the opacity, then using a brush set to Multiply to add some shadows under everything. I dropped in a few flags, because what's a revolution without flag waving? Added my couple and dropped their saturation a bit and added a levels adjustment to bump up the contrast. I started playing with a gradient map (sepia 1) adjustment layer and liked it better below the couple layer to have them stand out more. For the title, I created a mask out of my text selection and made another brush from an image of a group of carnations. I used this brush in red and a little black to color in my unmasked area.
